Travellers now only use the Coquihalla Highway, bypassing the closure. The fire near Hope is burning northeast of the Coquihalla interchange, sending thick smoke. Smoke is heavy and easy to see, reducing visibility. A second blaze erupted south of Boston Bar on Tuesday. This second fire spans 300 hectares. It prompted officials to close Highway 1 in the same area. Two key routes into southern BC are now impeded.
